Marcus Wasnea is a guitarist who plays an extensive repertoire of music ranging from the Renaissance and Baroque eras to contemporary jazz guitar. An extremely versatile musician, Marcus’ scope of musical awareness has allowed him to perform and record in numerous settings in Canada, The U.S.A, and Europe. Feeling equally at home whether playing classical concertos with orchestras, accompanying top classical artists such as violist Rivka Golani, playing jazz charts with symphonies and artists such as Robert Guillaume, the breadth of Marcus’ musical scope is near limitless.

Making his debut with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in their Magnificent Masters series, Marcus went on to concertize, tour, and record with The Alberta Baroque Ensemble. In addition, he was a guest artist at the Parkening masterclass. He has toured and recorded with fellow guitarist Caesar Zmyslowski in the duo “Caesar and Marcus”.

Marcus’ recording credits include numerous recitals for the CBC, public radio KPBX in the USA, and TV commercials for Time-Life. Marcus has also recorded Vivaldi’s Concerto in D (RV 93) with the Alberta Baroque Ensemble.

Conducting & Coaching

Marcus is equally at home whether conducting choir or orchestra. He has conducted a wide variety of works- from Early Renaissance choral pieces by Josquin, to Classical and Romantic era symphonic masterpieces such as Beethoven’s 7th and 8th Symphonies, and Brahms Academic Festival Overture.
